|
Historical NoteGrosvenor Robinson (1867-1953) came to Bates as instructor of Elocution in 1896. While at Bates he became involved with developing the Little Theater Movement in New England at Bates and assisting with the 4-A theater productions. His studies extended outside Bates during summer vacations through extensive travel. He toured various theaters, attended drama and theater workshops, traveling extensively throughout Europe and Russia. He retired from Bates in 1938. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and Content NoteThe collection includes a notebook kept by Bates theater professor Robinson that records his various trips and theater tours: a 1929 trip to Europe, a 1932 trip to Finland, and the publicized 1940 lecture tour to California taken on a Greyhound (he held a 15 foot bus ticket "believed longest in America.") The collection also includes travel logs and notes of his summer tours taken of the United States, Europe and Russia from 1924 to 1945 and scrapbooks (1933-1938) of photographs taken on his many trips abroad.
