Reserve Policy for Students

Course reserves are materials faculty members have set aside in Ladd Library to provide equal access for all students registered in specific classes. The materials are provided in various formats - print, sound, or video.

To look up a reserve, click on the "Reserve" tab on the Library's web page. Choose "Course" or "Instructor" then enter the name of the course or the instructor's last name in the search box and click on "Search". All materials on reserve for this course are listed and are sorted alphabetically by title. You may also sort by author or call number. Find the item you want, write down the call number and bring it to the appropriate desk. Your Bates I.D. is required for check out.

  • Print reserves are available for check out at the Reserve Desk on the Main floor of Ladd Library.

  • Audio, video, and score reserves are available from the Audio Desk on the Ground floor of Ladd.

  • E-Reserves are available 24/7 from any networked computer on campus. (Access from off campus also available.) Click on the title of the article in the Course Reserves list. Click the "Go to article" link.

  • Many professors place supplemental materials on Lyceum, our Learning Management System.

Reserve materials at Ladd are frequently in high demand. There are short loan periods in place to allow access for all students in the class.

Please make note of the due time for each item checked out. Items returned late are fined at $2.00 per hour. The fine begins at the due time and continue to accrue indefinantly until the item is returned. These fines are in place to ensure the prompt return.

Circulation Desk Reserves may have a two hour, one day or three day loan period. Most print materials may be taken from the library; please ask the staff for permission to take the item outside.

Audio Desk Reserves all have a four hour loan period. A/V materials may not be removed from the library, except by the professor who has placed the reserve. There are facilities within the Audio Video Area to view and listen to these reserves.
