Teams & Schedules.
Captains Duties.
1. Team captain acts as a spokesperson during the game.
Only the team captain is allowed to speak with officials.
2. Team captain
is responsible for conduct of all its players and spectators. Officials and IM
Coordinator will ask team captain to remove players or spectators if necessary.
Good sportsmanship is requested at all times.
3. Knowing and understanding
all rules. Inform team of league rules and equipment policies.
4. Keep rosters
updated (roster changes may be made until the second week of the season).
5. 5 Minutes After GAME Time is FORFEIT TIME! Captains are responsible keeping
team informed of game times.
6. Two forfeits will result in a team losing
the right to compete in the playoffs. Three forfeits will result in a team being
dropped from the league.
7. Rescheduled games may be done by calling the IM
Sport Coordinator (or Intramural Director) within 24 hours notice of your game.
Rescheduling games will be done only for extreme emergencies as the season is
very short.
Players.
1. Game is played with 7 players, including the goalie, playing at
once.
2. A minimum of 6 players is needed to start a game. If a team does NOT have 6 players 5 minutes after game time, it is a forfeit. Teams may play if
they choose, but it remains a forfeit regardless of the score.
3.
It is recommended that each team have both genders represented on the field at all times.
3. Rosters
may only have 12 participants on them.
4. Current Bates Varsity/JV soccer players
are NOT allowed to play.
5. Limit of two former Bates varsity/jv players
are allowed on the roster with only one on the field at a time.
Equipment.
1. Each player must wear turf shoes or sneakers.
No boots or shoes that contain spikes or cleats will be allowed.
2. Shin guards
and mouth guards are strongly recommended!
3. Goalies may use their own equipment
(gloves) with prior approval from the Officials or IM Director.
4. No baseball
caps are allowed to be worn during game play.
5. Teams should wear shirts
of the same color if at all possible. Otherwise, pinnies will be available.
6. Jewelry, chains, rings, or earrings that could interfere (officials / coordinators
opinion) may NOT be worn.
Playing time.
1. Games will consist of two 20 minute halves, running
time. The clock will stop only at the Officials discretion. (In the case we have
no officials, it will be at the Captains discretion.)
2. A two minute halftime
will be used.
3. Teams will be allowed two, 1 minute time-outs per game.
4. Time-outs will be called by players on the field only.
5. If a time-out
is called by a team with no available timeouts remaining, then a Penalty Kick
will be awarded to the opposing team.
6. Overtime: Sudden Death. At the conclusion of 3 minutes there is no goal, then the game remains in a tie. For Playoffs, a 5 minute Sudden Death overtime will be used and if still tied, then
a second 5 minute overtime will occur.
7. Substitutions. Teams can sub during
dead play situations. All subs must inform officials before entering the game.
Rules of Play.
1. The game shall begin with a kickoff at the center circle
(the ball can be kicked forward or backwards). Defense must stand outside the
circle, no closer than 6 feet.
2. Kickoffs will be used to start a half and
after each goal scored.
3. The ball is out of bounds when:
a) it goes
out of playing area
b) it goes off opposing team player
4. When ball is
dead at the side line, the ball is put into play by opposing team player using
proper throw-in closest to where it went out of bounds. Defense must stand 6 feet
away.
5. A Corner Kick will be awarded to opposing team, when player puts
ball out of bounds at their end line. Defense must stand 6 feet away.
6. A
Goal Kick will be awarded to team, when ball is put out of bounds at their end
line by opposing team player. Defense must stand 6 feet away.
7. Goal Kicks
must first be touched by another player (of either team) prior to half field line.
8. All standard soccer penalties will be enforced: tripping, interference, or
bodily contact; results in Indirect kick.
9. Body Checking will NOT be allowed.
The penalty for Checking is a Direct Kick. Intentional Checking will result in
a player being ejected from the game possibly the league.
10. Any penalties
in the goal area shall result in a Penalty Kick.
11. The goalie may not cross
over the half field line at any time.
12. The goalie may not kick or throw
the ball over the half field line without the ball first being touched by another
player (of either team).
Off Sides: There will be no off sides in soccer.
Player Conduct.
1. No Swearing
will be allowed. A warning will be given for the first offense (team warning).
Second offense will be unsportsmanlike conduct which will result in loss of point
and ejection from match.
2. Fighting by any player or team will result in
automatic ejection.
3. Taunting of opposing players or officials will result
in automatic ejection.
4. Any player ejected must see the IM Director prior
to participating in any other matches.
5. NO Tolerance. NO alcohol
allowed on field; no participation by any player if intoxicated. PENALTY: Immediate
expulsion from league.
OFFICIAL'S AND IM SPORT COORDINATORS RIGHTS
1.
They have the right to eject a player or players from a game. If a player has
been ejected they must see the IM Director before being eligible to play in any
other IM Activity for the school year.
2. They have the authority to end a
game at any point if contestants cannot control their teams and/or spectators.
3. They have the final say. Any rule interpretation or dispute must take place
between the team captain and the official. A protest form may be filed if necessary
and must be submitted to the IM Office within 24 hours from the time of the incident.
4. They have the right to eject a player or suspend a game if alcohol is on the
field or has been used by a player or team.
