PRODUCTION CREDITS

Requirements: Theater majors must earn 5.0 production credits by the close of their final semester. Theatre majors are encouraged to speak with their academic advisors and the technical director early in their academic career about proper fulfillment of this requirement.

Assignment of Credits: Production credits will be assigned to each position available during the coming semester by the Technical Director. Those seeking Production Credit for non-department sponsored productions must secure written permission of both the Technical Director and the student's academic advisor prior to the commencement of the job.

The number of credits assigned to a position is determined on a case by case basis at the discretion of the Technical Director. The following criteria will be used as a guideline:

Stage Manager - Mainstage 3-5 credits
To qualify to stage manage a mainstage production, a student needs:

a. The approval of the Technical Director
b. Experience Assistant Stage Managing a mainstage production, or Stage Management of a smaller type production, or significant technical experience.

Stage manager - Studio 1-3 credits
Assist. Stage Manager 1-3 credits
Construction Crew - Mainstage 2-4 credits
Construction Crew - Studio 1-3 credits
Run Crew (includes board operators) 0.5-1.5 credits

Construction crew includes, but is not limited to, costume, scenery, paint, lighting, sound, and properties construction. The construction crew duties do not involve attending any rehearsal or performance. The credits are determined by approximating the number of required build hours for a specific crew on a specific production. The assignment of credit is based on approximately 30 hours per credit.

Exclusions: Production credit will not be assigned for any acting or design positions. Credit will also not be awarded for any work done as a paid student assistant (work study).

Responsibility of Meeting Requirements: Each theater major is required to keep track of all production credits and is solely responsible for completing the required credits prior to graduation. The technical director and the Department of Theater faculty assume no responsibility for meeting these goals. The academic advisor and the Technical Director will assist the student in making appropriate choices to complete the production credit requirement of the theater major
