Secondary Concentration 

in Dance
These are the requirements for a Secondary Concentration in Dance.
The following courses or an equivalent are required:

    Dance 250: 20th Century American Dance I
    Dance 252: 20th Century American Dance II
    Dance 251: Dance Composition
    Dance 253: Dance Repertory Performance
    One short term or an Independent Study in Dance
    Education Dance s29: Dance As A Collaborative Art

    One course from the following:
    Theater 227: '70s & '80s Avant-garde Theater & Performance Art
    Theater 232: Lighting Design
    Theater 360: Independent Study in Dance
    Dance s25 Ballroom Dance: Past and Present
    Theater 261: Beginning Acting
    Any music or art history course
    Plus 2.5 production credits: tech work in the theater. This requirement is mandatory

Students are expected to take modern technique and/or ballet twice a week and perform in two productions a year for a minimum of two years.

A summer at the three-week Bates Dance Festival is recommended, but not required. Bates has a fabulous summer program that has national and international recognition.

Plus 2.5 production credits: tech work in the theater.
