Theater at

Bates: A Student Guide 1998-1999

"At Bates, I had the rare opportunity of working on classical roles and exploring my own way of working to developing a technique suited to me as an actor. The Bates Theater Department was small enough that it enabled me to form close bonds with others in the group, providing a vehicle for social life at Bates. Theater at Bates was the exact creative outlet I needed to cope with the rigorous academic schedule necessary to become a Bates alumna. If it weren't for my exposure to Seneca's Medea and Moliere's The Misanthrope, I would have nothing to say to Garland Wright of the Guthrie Theater. In other words, Bates made me an intelligent, disciplined, and prepared actor, unafraid to handle any text, classical, modern, or contemporary."

- Liliana Amador, professional actress
