Machine Shop

One of the most important facilities for laboratory instruction and research in the physics department is the shop. It has several milling machines and lathes, and the other power and hand tools used in the constuction of scientific apparatus from aluminum, steel, and brass. There are facilities for arc and gas welding. A full-time professional machinist staffs the shop, constructing apparatus and teaching the use of the tools to students in Physics 231, Laboratory Physics.
