The Department of Philosophy and Religion

The Department of Philosophy and Religion, located at 73-75 Campus Avenue opposite the Muskie Archives, offers two distinct programs, each with its own faculty, its own series of courses, and its own requirements for its majors. Knocking on the left door in the photo will gain you entry into the world of philosophy; knock on the right, and you'll find yourself in that of religion. In each place, you will be greeted by a general guide introducing you to the program resident there, answering such questions as, "What does the study of philosophy and religion mean at Bates." "What's the point of it all," and "How do we go about it?" If you're the sceptic who's got to see the writing on the wall to believe it, try the sign.
