WOMEN'S X-COUNTRY TAKES 13th AT NEW ENGLANDS

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Bates College women's cross country team improved by three places and nearly 100 points from 2000 with their 13th-place finish at the New England Division III championships today. The Bobcats were led by sophomore Julie Dutton (Londonderry, N.H.) in 39th place, missing All-New England status by a mere five seconds in 18:50. Dutton finished in 124th place in 2000. Junior Kelly Puglisi (Scotia, N.Y.) ran second for the Bobcats in 50th place with a lifetime-best performance of 19:03. Beth Pagnotta (Hoosket, N.H.) also had a huge improvement, from 119th last year to 64th, while rookie Catherine Creswell (Portland, Ore.), also set a lifetime best with a time of 19:42, 87th overall. In all, the Bobcats spread less than a minute from one to five and under 1:20 from top to bottom.
