ANTHONY WINS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, BOBCATS FINISH THIRD

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Bates sophomore cross country runner Abigail Anthony (Jamestown, R.I.) became the just second woman in Bobcat history to win the State of Maine Championships, leading the team to a third-place finish.

Anthony, whose time of 18:34 missed the course record at Colby by just six seconds, joins Adelia Myrick '99, who won the race in 1997, as the only two Bates State individual champions. Anthony's teammates improved their races dramatically as well, with the Bobcats' top five scorers reducing their spread to 2:07. Rookie Julie Dutton (Londonderry, N.H.) placed 13th overall in 20:30, while senior Katie Parker (Williamstown, Mass.) and first-year Allison Locke (Troy, Maine) also finished in the top 20, taking 19th and 20th in 20:38 and 20:41, respectively. First-year Lauren Shoff (Metamora, Ill.) rounded out the Bates scorers in 29th place. The Bobcats next race in the Open New England's Franklin Park.
