BOBCATS PLACE THIRD AT STATE INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

GORHAM, Maine -- The Bates College women's track and field team placed third at the State of Maine championships. The Bobcats scored 70 points, while Bowdoin (254) took the title, with Colby in second (186). Host USM took 4th place (58)

The Bocbats earned one State championship, as first-year middle-distance specialist Leah mcDonald (Charleston, W. Va.) captured the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.84. Junior Kate Burakowski (Derry, N.H.) took second in the 800-meter run (2:29.64) and in the 1,500-meters (5:07.66). Junior Erika Bristol (Pittsfield, Mass.) took third place in both throwing events, with a 44-11 3/4 in the weight throw and 34-2 in the shot put, as well as in the 55-meter hurdles (9.57). Junior Tracy Lyford (Portsmouth, N.H.) rounded out the Bates scoring by taking third in the 600-meters (1:45.56) and the 1,000-meters (3:15.98).
