BRISTOL QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS AT NONSCORING MIT INVITATIONAL CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Though there was no scoring at this weekend's MIT Invitational, the Bobcats had several impressive individual performances. Leading the way was junior Erika Bristol (Pittsfield, Mass.), who won the 20-pound weight throw. Her toss of 46 feet, 7 1/2 inches is a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division III championships, to be held March 12-13 at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. Bristol's throw ranks 14th in the nation. Senior captain Kate Osborne (Sandy Hook, Conn.) took second with a lifetime-best throw of 43 feet, 2 inches, while first-year thrower Tonya Taylor (Elkin, N.C.) qualified for the New England Div. III championships with a personal-best throw of 36 feet, 10 1/2 inches. The Bobcats added two other New England Division III performances at MIT. Junior Kate Burakowski (Derry, N.H.) placed sixth in the 1,500-meters, running a 5:10.28, while classmate Tracy Lyford (Portsmouth, N.H.) took second in the 3,000-meters with a time of 11:23.43
