WANLESS, PUGLISI SET SCHOOL RECORDS AT ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

MEDFORD, Mass. — Two Bates College athletes set school records today as the Bobcats competing in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Track and Field Championships. The Bobcats finished tied for 28th place out of 51 scoring teams at the meet.

Junior Kelley Puglisi (Scotia, N.Y.) broke her second Bates College record of the season. Puglisi, who had earlier set the mark in the 1,000-meter run, established a new record today in the 1,500-meters. Her sixth-place time of 4:41.90 broke the mark previously set by Romalda Clark '90 in 1989. Puglisi also improved her NCAA qualifying time in the event by five places. She will wait to hear later this week if she gets a berth in the NCAAs.

Sophomore Liz Wanless (Belleville, Ill.) broke her own school record in the shot put for the third time this season. Her heave of 44 feet, 1.5 inches, was good for fourth place at the ECAC championships. She bettered her previous career-best by one-quarter inch. Wanless, an automatic qualifier for the national championships, is seeded 11th in the country.

The Bobcats also got a season-best peformance in the 4x400-meter relay. A team of four first-year runners, Leslie Milk (Elma, N.Y.) , Laura David (Santa Rosa, Calif.), Rachel Starr (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) and Christina Rivard (Auburn, Maine) won their heat with a time of 4:11.35.
