BOBCATS DROP DUAL MEET, 104-77, TO COLBY

LEWISTON, Maine —The Bates College women's track and field team excelled in the track events, but the Bobcats could not overcome Colby's advantage in the field events today as the White Mules won today's dual meet, 104-77.

Sophomore middle-distance runner Julie Dutton (Londonderry, N.H.) was the Bobcats' top performer, winning the 800-meter dash with a with a time of 2:27.73 and the mile run in 5:21.41. First-year runner Christina Rivard (Auburn, Maine), an Edward Little High School product, won the 400-meter dash in 1:03.46 and took second in the 200 with a time of 28.44 seconds. Sophomore women's soccer standout Catherine Crosby (Lincoln, Mass.) captured the 600 meters in 1:43.45, while junior Kelley Puglisi (Scotia, N.Y.) took the 1,000 with a time of 3:04.17 to round out the Bates winners. Bates' top performance in the field events came from senior Jen Strahle (Ridgewood, N.J.), who came up just 2.25 inches short of qualifting for the NCAAs with her 45-1.5 throw in the 20-pound weight.
