BOBCATS PLACE THIRD IN OPENING MEET OF 2001

GORHAM, Maine -- The Bates College women's indoor track and field team placed third at the season-opening Southern Maine Invitational today.

The Bobcats were led by a 1-2-3 performance in the high jump. Rookie Sarah Tressel (Newtown, Pa.) won the event in her first career meet with a leap of 4-10. Junior co-captain Anya Belanger (Milbridge, Maine) took second, also at 4-10, while sophomore Leana Nordstrom (E. Greenwich, R.I.) took third with a height of 4-6.

Senior co-captain Cami Wood (Coventry, Conn.) took second place in the 20-pound weight throw, while sophomore Abby Anthony (Jamestown, R.I.) took second in the 800 meters and third in the 1,500 behind rookie Julie Dutton (Londonderry, N.H.).
