Wesleyan Invitational
BRISTOL SETS RECORD AT WESLEYAN INVITATIONAL MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- In their first competition of the 1999-2000 season, a limited version of the Bates women's track and field team participated in the nonscoring Wesleyan Invitational, winning three of the four events they entered. Leading the way for the Bobcats was senior tri-captain Erika Bristol (Williamstown, Mass.), who captured the 20-pound weight throw and the shot put. Her winning toss of 36 feet, two inches, established a new school record in the shot put, beating the old mark of 36-1 established by Lynn Barker '92 in 1992. Bristol's winning throw in the 20-pound weight was 46 feet. Junior Cami Wood (Coventry, Conn.), a transfer from George Washington University, took second in the weight throw with a distance of 37 feet, 6.75 inches. First-year cross country runner Abby Anthony (Jamestown, R.I.) captured the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:01.29. Anthony, who earned All-New England honors during cross country season, set a personal record by two seconds with her 11:19 split at 3,000 meters. Anthony and Bristol both qualified for the New England and ECAC Division III track championships with their performances.
