AMHESRST, Mass. -- Because of limited space, the women's tennis match between Bates and Amherst was played "to completion", meaning that matches are played until one team scores five points, clinching the victory. The Lord Jeffs, the defending national champions, were victorious in six matches, with Bates senior captain Janice Michaels (Princeton, N.J.) winning the Bobcats' lone point of the day at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
