The Bates College women's squash team bounced back from its second loss of the season with an impressive showing at the Williams Invitational, going 4-0.

After two matches scheduled for Friday afternoon were cancelled, Bates faced opponents from Franklin and Marshall shortly after stepping off the vans. Despite losses in the top three positions, including the first of the season by first-year player Aisha Shah (Bombay, India), the Bobcats rebounded to capture five of the bottom six spots for the 5-4 victory. With the match tied, 4-4, senior co-captain Shana McMenimon (North Easton, Mass.) was the last player on the court. After splitting the first two games with her Diplomat opponent, 10-8 each, McMenimon won Game 3, 9-0, but lost Game 4, 9-6. McMenimon came through in the final game with a 9-6 win.

For the tournament, The Bobcats were led by a couple of two-sport fall athletes. At No. 7, sophomore Kate Hagstrom (Portola, Calif.), a volleyball player, won all four matches she played without losing a game. First-year player Ginny Hurley (Revere, Mass.), a member of the field hockey team, posted four victories at No. 4. Despite the loss over the weekend, Shah leads the team with a 9-1 record, while coach John Illig's squad has an impressive 8-2 record overall.
