Led by the play of senior Colleen McCrave (Walpole, Mass.) and junior Kate O'Malley (Deephaven, Minn.), the Bates College women's soccer team exploded for three goals in the second half for a 5-2 victory over Bowdoin, the Bobcats' highest offensive output of the season. O'Malley had two goals and an assist, while McCrave added a goal and a pair of goals to help the Bobcats win their third straight game on the Polar Bears' home field, dating back to Nov. 1996.

Bowdoin (7-4-1, No. 5 in New England) started out strong, burying a bounding ball just three minutes into the game for an early Polar Bear lead. Bates (6-5, No. 7 in New England) would respond 10 minutes later as Amanda Waterhouse (Cumberland, Maine) scored her first collegiate goal on a rebound to tie the game. Bates took the lead shortly after as McCrave dished to a streaking O'Malley who tapped it past the Bowdoin goalie. The Polar Bears equalized before the end of the half one-touching a cross into the Bobcat net.

The two teams battled back-and-forth for the first 10 minutes of the second frame before Bates went to work. McCrave gave the Bobcats the lead they would never lose when she out-ran everyone to a loose ball in front of the net and angled the ball in for a 3-2 lead. Less than a minute later, sophomore Val Rosenberg (Oakland, N.J.) struck a perfect corner kick. O'Malley leapt and headed home the goal for her fourth multi-goal game of the season. Junior Jolene Thurston (Post Mills, Vt.) put the finishing touches on the game by converting a feed from in the area after McCrave kept the ball in bounds just before it went over the end line.

Suzie Arnold (Falmouth, Mass.) made nine saves to pick up the victory, the Bobcats' first this season over a NESCAC opponent and first in two years when their opponents scored first.
