BATES WINS SECOND STRAIGHT, 2-0, OVER GORDON

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College women's soccer team (5-3) picked up their third shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over the visiting Gordon College Fighting Scots.

The Bobcats got one goal in each half. Junior back Molly Metcalf (Walpole, Mass.) scored her first career tally midway through the first half. Just over five minutes into the second stanza, senior co-captain Jolene Thurston (Post Mills, Vt.) and first-year forward Melissa Ostuni (Lynnfield, Mass.) made a pair of perfect touch passes to rookie halfback Krissie Whiting (Contoocook, N.H.), who tapped the ball in.

First-year goalkeeper Kim Martell (Needham, Mass.) made four saves for her fifth win of the season, while Gordon keeper Sara Baker (Waterville, Vt.) had six saves in the losing effort.
