EARLY BURST LEADS BOBCATS PAST SALEM STATE, 3-0

SALEM, Mass. -- Seniors Amanda Waterhouse (Cumberland, Maine) and Kate Dockery (New York, N.Y.) each registered a goal and an assist as the visiting Bates College Bobcats (1-0) opened their season with a 3-0 victory over the host Salem State Vikings (2-1).

The Bobcats started the scoring early as Dockery found an open Waterhouse for the first tally just 2:04 into the contest. Dockery then headed home a cross from sophomore Meredith Katter (Sudbury, Mass.) at 9:54 to give Bates 2-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the contest. Waterhouse picked up her assist in the 28th minute, finding junior midfielder Krissie Whiting (Contoocook, N.H.), who blasted home a shot from 20 yards out to close out the scoring. Junior goalkeeper Kim Martell (Needham, Mass.) recorded six saves for her 12th career shutout. Salem State's Kenrda Perry made 17 saves in the losing effort.
