FIRST-YEARS FLOURISH AS BATES TROUNCES WESLEYAN, 7-0

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College women's soccer team (8-3, 4-3 NESCAC) had little trouble with NESCAC foe Wesleyan University (2-9-1, 0-7) in the first regular season meeting between the two teams, as the Bobcats posted a 7-0 win on Leahey Field.

Six of Bates' seven goals came off the feet of rookies, including a two-goal performance from back Catherine Crosby (Lincoln, Mass.) and a goal and an assist from classmates Kristie Crawford (Derry, N.H.), Lindsey Harvey (Winchester, Mass.) and Becky Castle (Stonington, Conn.). First-year halfback Ariel Hirschberg (W. Newton, Mass.) and sophomore Christy Deysher (Wilton, N.H.) rounded out the Bates goal scoring.

Sophomore Kim Martell (Needham, Mass.) and rookie Lynne Antinarelli (Bedford, Mass.) made four saves and combined for Bates' fourth shutout of the season. Wesleyan's Ella Naef (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) had 16 stops in the losing effort.
