WOMEN'S SOCCER FALL TO TUFTS, 2-0, EVENS NESCAC RECORD
(Taken from a Tufts University press release)
MEDFORD -- In a battle between two 5-1 teams entering the game, Tufts University senior Sara Yeatman (Santa Monica, Calif.) scored a goal in each half to propel the Jumbos to a 2-0 victory over Bates College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon.
Yeatman was in the right place at the right time to get Tufts on the scoreboard in the 24th minute. A curving direct kick by Tufts senior Carmen Mikacenic (Seattle, Wash.) bounced at Bates sophomore keeper Kim Martell's (Needham, Mass.) feet and away to Jumbo junior Lynn Cooper (Wilton, CT), who tapped it to Yeatman who tapped it in for her team-high third goal of the year.
Yeatman netted her second of the game and fourth of the year halfway through the second half on an assist from freshman Jess Trombly (Nashua, N.H.).
The Tufts defense allowed eight shots, of which senior Randee McArdle (E. Nassau, N.Y.) needed to stop only two. The Jumbos have allowed just four goals in seven games. Martell was slightly more busy for Bates, finishing with eight saves. The Bobcats dropped to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the NESCAC with the loss, while Tufts improved to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the league.
