BABSON HANDS BATES 12-11 LOSS IN SEASON FINALE

WELLESLSEY, Mass. -- Junior Katie Matthews (Melvin Village, N.H.) and sophomore Laura Hayes (Troy, N.Y.) scored five goals apiece to lead Babson College (6-9) past Bates College (6-8), 12-11 in a season finale non-conference women's lacrosse game on Alumni field.

The game was tied 4-4 at the half and remained close until Hayes scored two consecutive goals to give the Beavers a 10-6 cushion with 8:00 remaining. Bates closed the margin to 11-10 with 1:25 left, but Matthews netted her fifth and final goal with 1:14 remaining to help Babson snap a three-game losing streak.

Babson senior goaltender Tanya Josie (Shrewsbury, Mass.) made 28 saves in her collegiate finale to earn the win in goal. Senior Julie Lundman (Worthington, Ohio) and classmate Suzie Arnold (Falmouth, Mass.) had three goals and one assist apiece for Bates. Senior goalie Cil Bloomfield (Exeter, N.H.) made nine saves in a losing effort.
