WILLIAMS DOWNS BATES, 21-3, IN NESCAC TOURNAMENT

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Bates College women's lacrosse team will have to wait for an ECAC tournament berth if the Bobcats want to reach the postseason, as coach Wynn Hohlt's team, the sixth seed in the inaugural NESCAC tournament dropped a 21-3 decision to host Williams, the third seed. The Ephs scored 18 goals before Bates got on the scoreboard on a goal by Jen Sall (Gladwyne, Pa.) with 9:57 remaining in the game. The goal was Sall's 100th career point. Rookie Carrie Smith (Chevy Chase, Md.) and sophomore Liz Lawler (Dublin, N.H.) also scored goals for the Bobcats, who fell to 9-7 with the loss. Williams improved to 12-2 and will face arch-rival Amherst in the tournament semifinals.
