BATES WOMEN DROP SECOND STRAIGHT ON THE ROAD, 73-58, AT MIDDLEBURY

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Bates College women's basketball team (17-3) dropped its second straight decision on the road, falling, 73-58, to the Middlebury College Panthers (13-8).

The Bobcats, who shot just 25 percent from the field in a 60-49 loss to Williams last night, continued their shooting woes by missing 17 of their first 18 shots from the floor. Bates trailed 18-2 midway through the first half, and though they cut the lead to eight with 4:41 remaining, the Panthers ended the half on an 11-5 run, taking a 43-29 lead into the locker room. Another nine-point run early in the second half put the Panthers up by 22, 57-35, a lead they maintained until the waning moments of the game.

Junior guard Jolene Thurston (Post Mills, Vt.) was the only Bates player in double figures with 10 points. Senior Amy Taylor (Orono, Maine) scored nine points and is now eight points from 1,000 in her career.
