Bates 70, Williams 61 BATES WOMEN BOUNCE BACK WITH 70-61 WIN AT WILLIAMS WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. Junior forward Carla Flaherty (Gorham, Maine) matched her season-high with 21 points and senior co-captain Kate Dockery (New York, N.Y.) added 16 as the Bates College women's basketball team avoided its first two-game losing streak of the season with a 70-61 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) victory over the host Williams College Ephs in Chandler Gymnasium today. Dockery came onto the floor red hot, scoring the first five points of the game and 10 of her team's first 12, tallying all of her16 points in the first half. Though she went scoreless the rest of the way, teammate Flaherty picked up where she left off, dropping in 16 in the second half to total a game-high 21 points. The victory pushed the Bobcats' mark to 15-5, 5-2 in NESCAC, and dropped the Ephs to 17-6, 6-2 in the conference. Bates led the whole way with Williams coming as close as five midway through the first half. But, every time the Ephs made a mini-run, the Bobcats answered with a 3-point basket. The Ephs had no answer from three-point range, going 0-for-eight from downtown in the first half and three-for-21 overall, a 14% clip. On the other side of the ball, Bates made seven-of-21 three balls (33%). The Bobcats also outrebounded Williams 48-37. The same Williams squad that shot 44% from the floor in a 79-50 victory over Tufts on Friday night, shot just 32% today. Junior co-captain Kate Stumpo (Walpole, Mass.) led the Ephs, scoring 18 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists. Also in double digits for Williams were junior Melissa Skeffington (Woburn, Mass.) with 11 and first year Kerri McMahon (Denville, N.J.) adding 10. McMahon added four assists and four steals.
