BATES WOMEN FALL TO TRINITY, 73-65

LEWISTON, Maine —Junior center Kate McCloskey (Uxbridge, Mass.) posted game-highs with 32 points and 11 rebounds to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball victory over the host Bates College Bobcats, 73-65, in Alumni Gym this afternoon.

Bates (11-4, 2-1 NESCAC) trailed for much of the first half, going down by eight, 30-22, with just over two minutes left. The Bobcats scored four straight buckets, including two by rookie Heather Taylor (Nobleboro, Maine), to tie the game, 30-30, with 33 seconds left. Trinity (9-6, 3-1 NESCAC) answered with a hoop by senior Bridget Dullea (Longmeadow, Mass.) with eight seconds left, but Bobcat first-year forward Olivia Zurek (Arlingon, Mass.) put back an offensive rebound at the buzzer, sending the game to the half deadlocked at 32-32.

The Bobcats took their only lead of the game, 36-34, on a jumper by junior forward Lisa Golobski (Methuen, Mass.) at the 17-minute mark of the second half. The Bantams answered with a 9-4 run to go up 43-38 on a three-point play by first-year guard Michelle McCaffrey (W. Springfield, Mass.) at the 14:45 mark, a lead Trinity would not relinquish. Bates tied the game twice more, the latest at 58-58 with 6:08 remaining, but McCloskey scored eight points as the Bantams went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to seal the game.

McCloskey scored her 32 points on 12-of-15 shooting from the floor and eight-of-eight from the line. Dullea was the only other Trinity player in double figures with 13 points. She also recorded a game-high eight assists. The Bantams hit 15-of-15 free throws in the second half and shot 56.5 percent from the floor (13-23) in the frame and 53.2 percent (25-47) overall.

Bates was paced by 15 points each from senior Kate Dockery (New York, N.Y.) and junior Carla Flaherty (Gorham, Maine). Zurek had 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds off the bench.
