BATES WOMEN CLOBBER MAINE-MACHIAS, 103-45

BANGOR, Maine -- The Bates College women's basketball team registered their highest scoring output since the opening game of the 1999-2000 season tonight as the Bobcats (2-1) defeated the University of Maine-Machias Clippers, 103-45, in the opening round of the Paul Bunyan Tournament at Husson College.

Thirteen of the 14 players on the Bates roster scored points in the contest. The Bobcats were led by sophomore Lauren Dubois (Beverly, Mass.), who hit 10 of 13 from the floor, including a pair of 3-pointers, and three-of-four from the line for a game-high 25 points in just 17 minute. Dubois also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Senior guard Kate Dockery (New York, N.Y.) and rookie forward Olivia Zurek (Arlington, Mass.) also reached double figures, scoring 10 points each.

Maine-Machias' Sara Ricker led the Clippers with 18 points, while Gill Guest recorded a game-high 15 rebounds. The Clippers committed 36 turnovers, three times as many as the Bobcats. Bates' last 100-point game came Nov. 20 1999, also against UMM, when the Bobcats won, 128-42.

Bates will take on the host Husson College Braves tomorrow at 3 p.m. to try to defend their Paul Bunyan Tournament title. Husson defeated Five Towns (N.Y.) College in tonight's second game, 68-64, to advance to the title contest.
