COLD FIRST HALF COSTS BOBCATS AGAINST WELLESLEY

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Senior Amy Barao (Norwell, Mass.) scored 29 of her team's 79 points as the host Wellesley College women's basketball team (7-1) posted a 79-57 victory over the visiting Bates College Bobcats (4-4).

The Blue enjoyed a commanding 42-17 lead at the half thanks to a six-of-24 shooting performance from the field by Bates. The Bobcats battled back in the second half, outscoring Wellesley, 40-37. Junior guard Kate Dockery (New York, N.Y.) tallied 17 of her career-high 19 points in the second frame, but it was not enough.

Barao led all scorers with her 29 points on eight-of-16 from the floor, including five-of-eight from 3-point range, and eight-of-nine from the free throw line. Wellesley sophomore Kate Lyren (Wadsworth, Ohio) contributed 18 points, while senior Meg Barao (Norwell, Mass.) had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Bates sophomore guard Marcy Grossman (Eastsound, Wash.) contributed 11 points for the Bobcats. She was one of six Bobcats to hit from 3-point range, as Bates tied a single-game record with nine trifectas for the second time this season.
