Bates 66, Salve Regina 52 WOMEN'S HOOPS GAINS SPLIT ON ROAD TRIP WITH 66-52 WIN AT SALVE REGINA NEWPORT, R.I.-- The Bates College women's basketball team (5-4) gained a split on their two-game road trip to start the second semester with a 66-52 win over host Salve Regina University (5-4) today. The Bobcats trailed at the half of the contest, 30-28, allowing the Seahawks to shoot 40 percent from the floor. The Bates defense tightened in the second half, giving up just six field goals on 27 shots (22.2 percent). Sophomore guard Marcy Grossman (Eastsound, Wash.) snapped 36-36 tie with six consecituve points to give Bates a 42-36 lead they would not relinquish in handing SRU its first loss at home this season. Senior forward Kate McLaughlin (Laconia, N.H.) led the four Bobcats in double figures with 14 points while grabbing nine rebounds. Classmate Katy Dutille (Lebanon, N.H.) and junior Kate Dockery (New York, N.Y.) each added 11 points, while sophomore Carla Flaherty (Gorham, Maine) tossed in 10. Rookie guard Lynne Antinarelli (Bedford, Mass.) contributed a team- and career-high 10 rebounds. Salve Regina was led by Kristin Hart's (New Fairfield, Conn.) 16-point, 11 rebound effort, both game-high performances.
