BATES WOMEN'S HOOPS DOMINATES CONN. COLLEGE, 85-39

LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates College women's basketball team held the visiting Connecticut College Camels to just one field goal over the final 14 minutes of the first half as the Bobcats ran away with an 85-39 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball victory tonight.

Bates (16-7, 6-2 NESCAC) never trailed in the contest, building a 12- point lead five minutes into the contest on a field goal by senior forward Kate McLaughlin (Laconia, N.H.). Connecticut College (6-16, 0-8 NESCAC) got as close as seven at 20-13 with 12:36 left in the first half on a free throw by senior Jessica Nowlin (St. Paul, Minn.), but the Bobcats ended the stanza on a 19-6 run to take a 39-19 lead into the locker room.

Bates was led by McLaughlin's game-high 20 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the floor. Sophomore guard Marcy Grossman (Eastsound, Wash.) added 15 points, a season high, and three steals. Sophomore guard Carla Flaherty (Gorham, Maine) and rookie Laura Nafe (Roland, Ark.) each contributed 11 points. First-year forward Lauren Dubois (Beverly, Mass.) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.

Connecticut College was led by sophomores Margaret Guernsey (Essex, Conn.) and Sarah Frazier (Hadley, Mass.) with 10 points each. Nowlin topped the Camels with six rebounds.
