BATES WOMEN'S BASKETBALL UPSETS COLBY
IN OVERTIME, 74-73

LEWISTON, Maine - The Bates College women's basketball team improved their record to 6-4 this evening with a thrilling 74-73 point overtime victory against the Colby College White Mules.

The Bobcats' were led by senior co-captain Kate McLaughlin (Laconia, N.H)., who had a game- and career-high 26 points and 10 rebounds. McLaughlin scored 10 of the Bobcats' last 12 points, including six in overtime. Sophomore guard Carla Flaherty (Gorham, Maine), matched her career high with 22 points while senior co-captain Katy Dutille (Lebanon, N.H.), grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds, one shy of her career-best.

Colby sent the game into overtime with a coast-to-coast layup by sophomore guard Bianca Belcher (Lewiston, Maine), with 1.5 seconds left in regulation. This was the second year in a row that Belcher hit a last second shot to force the game into overtime. The White Mules were led by Belcher who had 18 points, while sophomore guard Carli Parisella of Bedford, Mass., added 16 points.

Bates has won the last eight in a row against intrastate rival Colby, who falls to 8-3 on the season. Coming into the game the White Mules were ranked fourth in New England by the New England Women's Basketball Association. The two teams will meet again on February 3rd in Waterville.
