BOBCATS WIN SEVENTH IN A ROW, 70-66, OVER WILLIAMS

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College women's basketball team opened the second half on a 16-8 run to expand on a one-point lead, and hung on to defeat the visiting Williams College Ephs, 70-66, in Alumni Gym this afternoon.

Williams (15-8, 4-4) led by three points, 13-10, early in the first half following a pair of free throws by senior captain Rebecca Brooks. The Bobcats answered their biggest deficit of the game with a 16-5 run that put them up 26-18 with 7:48 remaining in the half when junior Kate McLaughlin (Laconia, N.H.) was called for a technical foul. Williams used the momentum shift to end the stanza on a 13-6 run that trimmed Bates' lead to one, 32-31 at the break.

Bates (19-3, 6-1) came out of the locker room to put on the decisive run and take a 48-39 lead six minutes in. The Bobcats expanded the lead to as many as 13 on a 3-pointer by sophomore Sarah Williamson (Plainfield, N.J.) that gave them a 66-53 lead. Williams mounted a comeback by allowing just one more Bates field goal the rest of the way. The Bobcats suffered by going cold at the line as well, hitting just two-of-eight from the line down the stretch as Williams clawed to within three points, but could not get any closer.

Bates all-time leading scorer Emily King (Lebanon, N.H.) led the Bobcats with 16 points, while McLaughlin had 14. Williamson added a season-high eight assists. Williams' Brooks accounted for half of the Ephs' scoring with a 34-point performance on 12-of-15 from the floor and 10-of-12 from the line, while also pulling down 12 rebounds. The Ephs struggled from long distance, missing all 16 of their 3-point attempts.
