BATES WOMEN WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT, 73-53, OVER WESLEYAN

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- All 12 active players on the roster of the Bates College women's basketball team scored at least one field goal as the Bobcats (17-3, 4-1 NESCAC) topped the host Wesleyan University Cardinals (8-12, 2-5), 73-53.

The game was tight after 13 minutes of play before Bates ended the first half on a 20-9 run. Leading the way in the decisive charge was senior guard Melissa LaPointe (Salem, N.H.), who canned a pair of 3-pointers in helping the Bobcats to a 37-25 halftime lead.

The Bobcats expanded the margin to 18 points within five minutes of the second stanza, and the margin was never smaller than 13 after that. The Bobcats' final 20-point margin was their largest of the game and matched their average margin of victory for the season, the 19th best in the nation this season.

Bates senior forward Emily King (Lebanon, N.H.) was the only Bates player to score in doubel figures with 15 points on six-of-12 shooting. King also had a game-high seven rebounds and four steals. She now needs just 10 points to become the Bobcats' all-time leading scorer. Wesleyan small forward Leslie Smith had 12 points for the Cardinals, who committed 31 turnovers.
