BOBCATS BOUNCE UMF, 64-49

FARMINGTON, Maine -- The Bates College women's basketball team won their third straight game tonight as the Bobcats defeated the host University of Maine-Farmington Beavers, 64-49.

The Bobcats (15-3) never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 12-2 lead after five minutes of play. Bates led by as many as 13 in the first half and took a 34-22 lead into the lockerroom. Junior Kate McLaughlin (Laconia, N.H.) led the Bobcats with 12 first half points, including five of their first 10 hoops. The Beavers (10-9) stay close behind the 3-point shooting of Jen Robertson, who hit three of four from behind the arc in the first half.

A 12-5 run midway through the second half put the game away as the Bobcats expanded a 45-32 lead at the 13:47 mark to a 20-point bulge at 57-37 with 4:30 left in the game. Five different Bates players contributed to the run, with only senior Emily King (Lebanon, N.H.) scoring more than two buckets in the span.

King led all scorers with 19 points, while McLaughlin had 17. King also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and made six steals. Sophomore guard Sarah Williamson (Plainfield, N.J.) added eight assists and three steals without making a turnover for the second game in a row. Click here for Full Box Score
