 NEWCOMERS LEAD TRINITY WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PAST BATES

HARTFORD, Conn. - Junior guard Jackie Siscone (Hammonton, N.J.), a transfer from Colgate University, scored game-high 20 points and freshman center Kate McCloskey (Uxbridge, Mass.) totaled 17 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 72-63 win over the visiting Bates College Bobcats New England Small College Athletic Conference in women's basketball action this evening.

The win lifts Trinity, ranked sixth in New England, to 12-3 for the season. Bates, ranked third, falls to 12-3.

Trinity played its best half of the season for the first 20 minutes, shooting 63% percent from the field while holding the Bobcats to just 27%. Siscone and McCloskey both scored 12 points in the first half as the Bantams built a 46-26 lead.

Bates stormed back in the second half, cutting the lead to four points at 65-61 in the final two minutes but Trinity held on for a 73-62 triumph. Siscone shot seven of 10 from the field and made six of nine three-point attempts. Senior forward Gretchen MacColl (Portland, Ore.) scored 15 points and grabbed 11 boards for Trinity, while senior co-captain guard Megan Shutte (Allentown, Pa.) dished out nine assists.

Junior forward Kate McLaughlin (Laconia, N.H.) paced Bates with 19 points and senior forward Emily King (Lebanon, N.H.) pulled down 12 rebounds.
