BATES WOMEN KNOCK ST. JOSEPH'S FROM RANKS OF UNBEATEN, 73-69 LEWISTON, Maine -- Junior center Katy Dutille (Lebanon, N.H.) recorded her fourth-straight double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds as the Bates College women's basketball team (5-1) defeated the St. Joseph's College Monks (8-1), 73-69, in Alumni Gym today. St. Joe's opened up a brief one-point lead five minutes into the contest, but the Bobcats went on a 15-1 run over the next 5:15 to take a 23-10 lead with 9:44 remaining. Six different Bobcats contributed to the run. The Monks trimmed the lead to nine on a 3-pointer by junior guard Carolyn Brown (Auburn, Maine), but Dutille scored seven of her 13 first-half points over a two-minute span as the Bobcats took a 38-26 lead into the locker room. The Monks climbed back into the game over the first eight minutes of the second half, tying the game, 48-48, by hitting seven of their first 15 shots of the half, including three of four from 3-point range. After Bates first year Marcy Grossman (Eastsound, Wash.) hit from behind the arc, St. Joe's answered with a pair of free throws and a bucket by junior forward Cassie Turcotte (Dixfield, Maine) to take a 52-51 lead with 10:01 remaining. Bates scored the next five points of the game from the free throw line, including four of four by Dutille. St. Joe's hung tough, again cutting the lead to three points at 67-64 on a 3-pointer by Sue Picard (Saco, Maine), but Bates senior Jolene Thurston (Post Mills, Vt.) iced the game at the free throw line, converting seven-of-eight foul shots in the final two minutes. Dutille shot seven-of-11 from the field and five-of-five from the line in her 19-point, 15-board effort. Picard led St. Joe's with 17 points, including three-of-seven from 3-point range, junior Jen Marsh (Enfield, N.H.) had 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
