Bates 73, Husson 58
BOBCATS DEFEAT HUSSON BEHIND KING'S 24 LEWISTON, Maine -- Playing in their final home game of January, the Bates College women's basketball team downed Husson College, 73-58, in Alumni Gym today. The first half consisted of several runs by both teams. Husson (8-8) led by as many as seven points on two occasions, the latest coming with 7:29 remaining. Bates went on a 16-3 run over the next 5 minutes and ended up with a 35-32 halftime lead. Husson junior guard Katie Nye (Corrina, Maine) led all scorers with 13 at the half, including three-of-five 3-pointers as the Braves stayed in the game by hitting five-of-seven overall from downtown. Bates (12-2) clamped down their perimiter defense in the second half, allowing Husson just one trifecta after the break. Bates pulled away by holding Husson to just nine-of-34 shooting from the field in the second while hitting 14-of-32 on their own. The Bobcats were led by senior forward Emily King (Lebanon, N.H.), who scored a game-high 24 points on 12-of-20 shooting. The 24 points was the highest output by a Bates player this season. First-year center Lisa Golobski (Methuen, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds in her first career start. The Bates bench outscored Husson's, 16-0, led by nine points from first-year guard Marcy Grossman (Eastsound, Wash.).
