LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College Volleyball team (15-3), ranked second in New England, improved to 7-0 at home this season by winning the Bates Invitational tournament.

After cruising past Maine-Machias in the first contest, the Bobcats faced one of the toughest draws in the tournament. They earned a berth in the Championship bracket with a three-game win over No. 6 -ranked Middlebury, winning the third game of the match after trailing, 11-3, at one point. Bates' toughest test of the tournament came in the semifinals, where the Bobcats dispatched the No. 4-ranked Williams College Ephs in five games, winning the rally-scoring game five, 15-7. In that contest, junior setter Kate Hagstrom (Portola, Calif.) registered her first career triple-double, with 75 assists, 13 kills and 13 digs. The Bobcats then cruised in the championship match against their third ranked opponent in a row, dispatching No. 3 Springfield, 15-5, 15-10, 15-8 to win the title. Hagstrom earned Tournament MVP honors, while senior hitter Amanda Colby (Williamntic, Conn.) earned her third All-Tournament nod of the season.
