WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- The Bates College volleyball team, ranked second in New England, won their seventh straight match, knocking off No. 8 Wheaton College (Mass.) in three games. After an easy first game, the Lyons took Bates to 15-11 in the second before the Bobcats avenged one of their three losses of the season. The Bobcats extended their winning streak to nine matches with wins over Eastern Connecticut and NESCAC rival Wesleyan before falling in the finals to a 17-4 Franklin and Marshall squad, the No. 6 ranked team in the strong Mid-Atlantic region.

Junior setter Kate Hagstrom (Portola, Calif.) earned her fifth All-Tournament nod of the season, while sophomore outside hitter Lauren Fennessey (Joplin, Mo.) earned that honor for the first time in her career. Hagstrom recorded 14 service aces, 69 assists and 10 kills in the matches against ECSU and Wesleyan, while Fennessey had 10 digs against Eastern Conn.
