HAGSTROM JOINS 400 ACE CLUB AS BATES DOWNS SOUTHERN MAINE, 3-0

LEWISTON, Maine -- Senior setter Kate Hagstrom (Portola, Cal.) became the fourth woman in NCAA Division III women's volleyball history to record 400 career service aces as the Bates College Bobcats (6-2) defeated the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies (1-6), 3-0.

Hagstrom reached the milestone in the first game of the match when she served four consecutive aces. She ended the match with nine aces, giving her 405 for her career.

The Bobcats breezed through the first two games of the match, 15-2, 15-3, and led, 11-4, before Southern Maine came back. Behind the play of rookie middle hitter Caitlin Leonard (Peabody, Mass.) and junior outside hitter Celine Cote (Milan, N.H.), the Huskies evened the third game at 15-15. Hagstrom served the final two points to clinch the match for Bates.

First-year Bobcat Liz Wanless (Belleville, Ill.) led all players with 12 kills, while Hagstrom had 27 assists to go with her nine aces. The Bobcats are next in action at the MIT Invitational on Friday, while USM is at the Russell Sage Invitational.
