VOLLEYBALL THRASHES MAINE-FARMINGTON, 3-0

LEWISTON, Maine -- After struggling in the first game, the Bates College volleyball game won coach Jen Bowman's home opener in commanding fashion, defeating the University of Maine-Farmington, 15-9, 15-0, 15-0.

The Bobcats scored 20 of their 45 points on the match on service aces, including eight by senior setter Kate Hagstrom (Portola, Calif.) and six by rookie setter Emily Tomchin (Santa Barbara, Calif.), who served 14 consecutive points in the third game. Bates had a .428 hitting percentage for the match (21 kills and six errors in 35 attempts), led by a perfect four-for-four night from junior middle hitter Sarah Linehan (Stone Ridge, N.Y.).
