BATES WINS THIRD STRAIGHT STATE OF MAINE VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Dulude '02 LEWISTON, Maine -- For the third consecutive year, the Bates College volleyball team (27-7) has won the State of Maine Intercollegiate Volleyball Championships. The Bobcats, who have now won 30 consecutive matches against in-state opponents, defeated CBB rival Colby for the third time this season in the finals, 15-8, 15-7, 15-7.

The Bobcats also placed three members on the All-State first team, led by Player of the Year Kate Hagstrom, a senior setter from Portola, Calif., and Rookie of the Year Liz Wanless, a first-year outside hitter from Belleville, Ill. They were joined by junior outside hitter Lauren Fennessey of Joplin, Mo. Also on the All-State first team were senior Reagan Carey and junior Amanda Cuiffo of Colby and sophomore Kristene Hirsch of Maine-Machias.
