SWIMMING AND DIVING FALLS TO MIDDLEBURY

MIDDLEBURy, Vt. - Against one of the top teams they will face all season, the Bobcats struggled against the Middlebury College Panthers. The men fell, 163-123, while the women dropped a 167-122 decision, stopping their three meet winning streak.

For the men, first-year diver Andrew Hastings (Weston, Mass.) captured the 1-meter diving for the Bobcats lone win on the afternoon. The Bobcats also had three new qualifiers for the New England Division II championships. Senior Damon Bowe (Houma, La.), an NCAA participant last year, qualified in the 100-yard individual medley (58.94) and the 50 breaststroke (30.19). Sophomore David Roth (Sharon, Conn.) qualified in the 50 backstroke (28.63) and first-year diver Nick Holquist (Hamden, Conn.) scored a 202.88 in one-meter diving to qualify.

For the women, sophomore Gudrun Mirick (Chaska, Minn.) continued her fine performance in the middle distance freestyle, taking the 200-yard event. First-year swimmer Megan Simmons (Buffalo, N.Y.) took the 50-yard backstroke, while sophomore Kara McKeever (Westport, Conn.) captured the 50-yard breaststroke.

The women fall to 3-1 on the season, while the men drop to 2-2. The Bobcats next take to the pool Saturday, Jan. 16 against Babson at Tarbell Pool.
