The Bates women won 13 of the 16 events today. First-year swimmer Vanessa Williamson (Auburn, Maine) won three individual events for the second week in a row. She took the 200-yard butterfly and individual medley for the second straight week, adding the 100 freestyle to her repertoire today. Three other swimmers were double winners for the second straight week. Junior tri-captain Megan Ferrari (Doylestown, Pa.), took the 100 and 200 breaststroke; senior Megan Simmons (Buffalo, N.Y.) won the 100 and 200 backstroke; and first-year Nicole Sparks (New Canaan, Conn.) captured the 50 and 200 free. With the win, the Bobcats handed Tufts their first loss of the season after five wins.

The Bates men started the meet strongly, winning the 200 medley relay and taking third place as well. Junior David Bear (Winter Park, Fla.) and senior Dan Heneghan (Windsor Locks, Conn.) took the top two spots in the 1,000-yard freestyle in the next event. Bear also won the 500 free, while senior captain Andrew Hastings (Weston, Mass.) continued his success in the diving events, taking both the one- and three-meter boards. Sophomore Todd Bretl (Barrington, R.I.) won the 50 free and the Bates team won the concluding 200-yard freestyle relay, but the Jumbos' strength in the other three strokes earned them the victory and improved them to 8-0 on the season.
