Against Thomas on April 19, the Bobcats won the first game, 3-1. First-year shortstop Laura Lent (Clinton, Mass.) came up big in the opener with the lone extra-base hit of the game, a two-out double in the fourth inning that drove in Bates' first run to tie the game at 1-1. Lent scored the game-winning run one batter later when designated hitter Jolene Thurston's (Post Mills, Vt.) ground ball was thrown away. Lent also made several outstanding defensive plays, including a leaping catch in the sixth inning. In the seventh, with a runner on first, Lent made a diving stop of a ground ball deep in the hole and threw to second from her back to get the force. Junior Becki Gasior (Park Ridge, N.J.) picked up the win, bringing her record to 2-3.

Bates won the second game, 8-2, led by senior co-captain Brandi Richards (Kingfield, Maine), who was 2-4 with a double, three RBI and one run scored. Junior Emily Morningstar (West Newton, Mass.) and first-year player Anna Wulffleff (Wiltn, Conn.) each scored two runs. First-year pitcher Jen Crawford (Southborough, Mass.) picked up her second win of the season.
