BATES SOFTBALL PICKS UP FIRST NESCAC WIN OF 1999 OVER MIDDLEBURY, 6-1

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Bates College softball team (9-5) completed a three-game sweep of NESCAC rival Middlebury (1-12) today, winning game one of a doubleheader 17-6 and taking game two, 7-4.

The Bates offense was led by senior 1B Abbey DeRocker (Queensbury, N.Y.), who was a combined 6-8 at the plate with four runs scored and four RBI. In game one, sophomore Anna Wulffleff (Wilton, Conn.) and Derocker were each 4-5 at the plate, with Wulfleff scoring twice and driving in three runs. Sophomore 3B Laura Lent (Clinton, N.Y.) was 2-4 with a double and five runs scored in game one, while going 2-4 with a double a triple and three runs scored in game two. Senior pitcher Becki Gasior (Park Ridge, N.J.) picked up the victory in game one while allowing just one earned run in pitching her second victory in as many days, and sophomore Jen Crawford (Southborough, Mass.) improved to 4-3 on the season by scattering 10 hits in game two.
