Game 1: Wesleyan 4, Bates 1 WESLEYAN SOFTBALL SWEEPS BATES MIDDLETOWN, Conn. The Wesleyan University softball team swept an inter-divisional NESCAC doubleheader from Bates College today. The Cardinals won, 4-1, in the first game before rallying in the seventh inning to take the second, 5-4. Bates (5-16) got on the board in the first inning when junior hurler Krissie Whiting (Contoocook, N.H.) reached base on a dropped third strike and sophomore C Cami Dyson (Arvada, Colo.) doubled her home. Wesleyan (8-18-1) answered in the bottom of the inning and scored the eventual game-winner in the fifth on an RBI ground out by Sue Frost. The Cardinals added two insurance runs in the sixth inning, but pitcher Lindsay Wasserman was the story of the game, scattering six Bates hits in picking up her fourth win of the season. The Bobcats struck first in the second game as well, as Dyson plated Whiting on another double. Rookie 2B Erin Foye (New London, Conn.), who was hit by a pitch in between, scored on a passed ball. Sophomore Sarah Levine (Leeds, Mass.) upped the Bates lead to 3-0 in the sixth when she singled, stole second, moved to third on Amanda Beck's (Pleasantville, N.Y.) single and scored on a wild pitch. A triple, a fielder's choice and two doubles in the bottom of the sixth allowed Wesleyan to tie the game, but Whiting scored in the top of the seventh with the help of two Cardinal errors to put the Bobcats back on top. Wesleyan won the game in the bottom of the frame on a two-out, two-run single by senior 3B Kate Marciniec. Wasserman won the second game of the DH, and Bates junior Ginger Walsh (Hopkinton, N.H.) suffered the loss in relief of rookie Sarah Klenakis (Springfield, Mass.).
