USM TAKES TWO FROM BATES, 9-0 AND 12-6

LEWISTON, Maine — The University of Southern Maine Huskies picked up their 11th and 12th consecutive wins today, defeating the host Bates College Bobcats, 9-0 in the opener and 12-6 in the second game.

USM (23-11-1) had eight runs in the second inning of the first game on three hits, four errors and two walks. Senior LF Sunshine Anders (Richmond, Maine) had a two-run double in the frame.

Game two was tied headed into seventh inning when the Huskies scored six runs on five hits, two walks and one error. Back-to-back triples by Bates (5-20) junior CF Krissie Whiting (Contoocook, N.H.) and RF Carla Flaherty (Gorham, Maine) in the fifth inning ignited a three-run rally by Bates to tie the game at 6-6.
